TAMILNADU MALLAKHAMB ASSOCIATION

Tamilnadu Mallakhamb Association was started from 1983 by Mr. Ulaga. Durai. It’s registered on 2004. He started his training at the age of Nine (1991) He is well known about the Gymnastics, Mallakhamb, Rope Yoga, Yoga and Sillambam. He is a senior coach of our Tamilnadu team and Director of technical committee in Tamilnadu Mallakhamb Association. 

He got a Kalaivalarmani award honored by the Tamilnadu Government. The father of Mallakhamb was a Sri Balambatta Dada Deodher. He was a renowned disciple of Ustad Raghobadada of Pune.

Mallakhamb is known as “The mother sport of ancient India. Mallakhamb is no exception for this Indian Traditional culture exceptionally in Tamilnadu, the Ancient Traditional Indian Physical Culture, is now, one of the ‘fastest growing traditional sports’ in the world. Although, Mallakhamb started as a complementary exercise for wrestling, it soon proved to be complementary exercise for all other sports disciplines, as it improves strength, stamina, speed, endurance, flexibility, neuro – muscular coordination, balance, confidence, courage, and many more abilities.

It is a martial art, competitive sport, performing art, a fitness sport, dynamic yoga as well as a circus apparatus too. The Exercises of    poles of   Mallakhamb   and rope   are played against   the   Gravity during upward   and   downward   movement.

The name Mallakhamb derives from the terms malla, meaning wrestler, and Kham, which means a pole. Literally meaning “wrestling pole”, the term refers to a traditional training implement used by wrestlers.
